Opening your mission call

I vividly remember the strong emotions I felt when I opened my mission call. I remember the impact  I felt when I read the words "Elder Rockwood, you are hereby called to serve as a missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." The Spirit was very strong, and so were my feelings of excitement, nerves, and anticipation. I remember the sweet feeling when I read the words "Dominican Republic, Santiago Mission." Soon, you will be having that same moment in your own life. Live your life in such a way that the Lord can use you like a sharp tool to do his work and represent his will. Enjoy the video below. It captures very well the atmosphere of that powerful moment.

That moment when you read your call marks the beginning of your ministry and the beginning of a lifelong love of the people and the region where you are assigned to labor. Just like the prophets of old, you will represent the Savior, teach what he taught, love (in a smaller way) as he loved, and participate in the great work of redeeming Israel and the greater work of bringing joy and the door of exaltation to your brothers and sisters. Don't let anything stand in your way!

Cub Scout Day Camp 2012

Well men, great job on putting on the Pack 279 (Kolob 9th Ward) Cub Scout Day Camp 2012. The Cub Scouts learned a lot, passed off a lot of requirements, and had a great time. You all did a fantastic job!

November Turkey Shoot

In November a few of the Teachers and Priests went to the annual Turkey shoot at the mouth of Hobble Creek Canyon. There was a competition but we did not win anything although we did have a lot of fun. There was a Shotgun competition which consisted of 2 rounds of 5 chances to hit 5 clay pigeons. I believe after the first round we were 4 for 25 but improved a little on the second round to 9 for 25. We were a lot better at the .22 rifle shooting. Everyone got their own target to shoot at about 20 yards. They put an aspirin on the center and if you hit it then you could pick a candy bar. We got at least 6 or 7 candy bars on that one. They also had an extra activity which was hatchet throwing. If this was a competition Todd would have won that one. A photo album is included here of the pictures of the boys shooting their targets.

Camping Trip

Over the summer a bunch of us went to some property for a campout. On the way there we had to go under a tree that had fallen over. The car could barely make it under the tree and we were a little worried we wouldn't make it back out but everything worked out great. We had a great hike and got to go on a zip line. Thank you to everyone who came. We especially appriciated having Cory with us on this trip.
